Peter the German Mastercraftsman Watchmaker and Clockmaker

Peter was born on the 9th August 1958 in a small village called Heggen in Sauerland, a part of Germany.

Sauerland

Upon successfully finishing school in June 1973, he started his clock and watchmaker apprenticeship in August 1973. After three and a half years of learning and studies and successfully passing many different tests, he received his Examination Certificate on the 20th January 1977.

Until December 1983 he was employed in three different business workshops, working as a clock and watchmaker. During the years 1982 to 1984 he studied at evening school - all the laws and rules for running a business in Germany. He also completed part time courses at the School for Master Craftsmen gaining all the knowledge to become a master craftsman. This is the highest qualification that can be acheived in Germany.

After passing every test he finally received his Master Certificate in January 1984. Later that year he opened his own clock and watch repair shop. Business went well and in May 1988 Peter upgraded his shop with a new building and now included jewellery sales.

In March 2002 Peter closed his business and began working at the school for clock and watchmakers in Furtwangen Black Forest.
This school trained students in the art of clock making. Students came from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Russia and even Japan. Peter’s area of responsibility included the repair and restoration of antique wrist and pocket watches, wall and grandfather clocks as well as many museum timepieces. Peter has regularly worked on clocks up to 300 years old including those with wooden moving parts. Some of the clocks Peter repaired are shown on the training school website....................................................................... http://www.rgs.vs.bw.schule.de/besonderes/uhrenklinik.php (for those using Google Chrome you have the option to translate the page from German to English - try it!)

In August 2007 one of Peter's dreams finally came true. He had always wanted to move to Australia. He was sponsored to take up a position as clock and watchmaker at Black Forest Hill, the World Famous Cuckoo and Grandfather Clock Centre just north of Toowoomba
. Peter even shipped out his collection of tools and clockmaking equipment. After three years at Black Forest Hill, Peter has once again decided to move on and open up his own repair business in the centre of Toowoomba.

Peter continues to look forward to meeting those of you with an interest in mechanical clocks. Peter has over 30 years experience in the industry and there is very little he is unable to repair. If you have been told your watch or clock is unrepairable, make sure you contact Peter and bring along your timepiece for a proper repair. To let you know how good his work is, Peter will provide a two year warranty on all his major repairs.
