My name is Peter Schanz and I am a German Master craftsman, Watchmaker and Clockmaker. My workshop is in Flaxton Queensland Australia
MY BACKGROUND
My birthplace is Heggen - a small village in Sauerland, Germany
I started my clock and watchmaker apprenticeship in 1973. In three and a half years and many different tests, I qualified with my Examination Certificate in 1977 and
have spent many years working and refining my craft including completed my business training from 1982 to 1984.
I have also completed part time courses at the School for Master Craftsmen which is the highest qualification achievable in Germany as a master craftsman. Finally I achieved my Master certificate in January 1984.

In 2002 I began working at the school for clock and watchmakers in Furtwangen in the Black Forest where I trained in the art of clock making. Students came from all over the world to train here - many from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Russia and even Japan.
My specialty includes the repair and restoration of antique wrist and pocket watches, grandfather and mantle clocks among other kinds of clocks old and new.
I have worked on clocks up to 300 years old including those with wooden moving parts. Some of the clocks I have repaired are shown on the training school website:
